Is Bas Dost the Most Underestimated Player?
Bas Dost is player that most of you haven’t probably heard much, yet last year he was the runner-up for the Golden Boot award, 3 goals behind the superb Leo Messi.
This year he might attempt to win the Golden Boot, but he will need to recover soon from the injury he sustained on 31.01.2017 to achieve this.

After few seasons there he was noticed by FC Emmen, in 2007 they’ve offered him his first contract, he soon gained first team football. The scouts of Heracles Almelo decided that he should be purchased, so they did this for 300.000 EUR. After two years he was bought from SC Heerenveen for a 3.2 million, he stayed for two years. During the first year here he was took part in 32 appearances in the first team and as starter in 22 games an he managed to score 13 goals. The second year of his stay there he was starter in 34 games and he managed to score 32 times, how impressive for such a young player!!!
He then moved to Vfl Wolfsburg for a fee of 7 million EUR according to transfermakt . He had troubles with injuries however he manage to score 36 goals in 86 games which gives him 0.42 goals per game statistics.
And then in 2016 he moves to Sporting Lisbon for 11.85 million EUR according to transfermakt and his career reached his peak, 51 games played and 53 goals scored or 1.04 goals per game!!!
Last year he nearly missed the Golden Boot award, but this year might not be the case, there 15 more games to be played and he already scored 20 from 20 games he played in.
The numbers speak of the quality of the player, he has placed 42 shots and 24 of them were on goal or 57.14% of the shots reached it target, this puts him way above players like: Harry Kane, Robert Lewandovski, Mauro Icardi and Neymar just to name few.
